 Daily Micro Movements

Genius Tip #488

The evidence is staggering: Every single organ, tissue and cell in our body is in constant movement. Especially muscles LOVE to move. Babies cannot NOT move.

Sedentary lifestyle has been identified as a powerful silent killer in hundreds of scientific studies: Physical movement support heart health, aides digestion, prevents depression, boosts emotional health, and a long list of other related benefits.

If you find it difficult to schedule regular daily times for FUN movements or want to enhance your current workout routines, here is a playful way to engage your muscles at any time:

Micro Movements - small but intense movements you can do while driving your car:

  • Imagine your steering wheel as a clock and hold it at 2 and 8; now press both hands firmly against each other. Hold for 10 s and enjoy the strength of your chest muscles.
  • Repeat the same while holding your wheel at 6 and 12: what muscles are engaging now?
  • Contract your buttock and hamstring muscles for 10 seconds and release.
  • Draw your shoulder blades closer together and hold for 10 seconds.
  • Repeat your little routine 5 times.
How do you feel?
How does it impact your body awareness?
How do you like your muscles?

I love these creative physical disruptors when I think too much or get bored at the wheel...! They are healthy and remind me of my own priority: Body FIRST.
